Descriptive Writing - The Park

Today was an ordinary day.  Waking up by a bundle of sunshine passed through the curtain, I felt like I was bathing in the warm and shimmering light. I slowly opened my eyelids and took a big yawn. As I peered through the curtain, I noticed that the park under my apartment was as dynamic as usual. Being pushed by an intangible force, I decided to have a walk in the park.

Down in the park, I saw skies of blue and clouds of white. I was like a raindrop waiting to be enveloped by the scorching sun. When I looked around, I saw myriads of bright-coloured flowers and plants were embracing me. The eye-catching butterflies and bees were dancing here and there for collecting their food from the cluster of flowers. Then I closed my eyes. I could sense the soft breeze coming through the giant-sized trees. I could detect the fresh smell of grass mixed with mud and sand. I could hear the singing voice of birds and soothing sound of cicadas. Their chirps formed an unexpectedly alluring and harmonious melody. I indulged myself with this cozy and restful environment.

After a few minutes, I opened my eyes. What came into my sight were the vivid and flamboyant recreational facilities for children including the swings, the slides, the climbing frames and the seesaw. All of these evoked my childhood memories in this park, which were full of laughters and tears.

I still remembered in my childhood, the park was my favourite place to go for amusement and I totally got addicted to it. I used to beg my mum to bring me to this ‘children’s paradise’ afterschool. I enjoyed playing hide and seek with my friends at that time. The yellow slide, which looked like a tube, was the place I usually hid into.  What’s more, I liked to compete with my friends to see who could climb higher on the climbing frames. When we felt exhausted after playing for so long, we used to lie down on the ground for a nap or share our snacks together.

However, the park was not always full of merriment. One day when I was playing the swing, I suddenly lost my balance and then fell onto the ground. I cried at the top of my voice, as I felt extremely painful on my back. Fear and terror engulfed my body. The atmosphere became stiff. This scene stunned everyone and they didn’t know what to do. As far as I remembered, I heard the piercing sound of the ambulance before I fainted.

Thousands of memories about this park kept springing up onto my mind. The park witnessed my growth from a child to an adolescent. All of the memories are invaluable to me. Yet, the unpalatable truth is that I can never go back to my childhood. What I can do is to reminisce it from my memories. The laughters of children pulled me back to the reality. I stopped my reminiscence and padded to my apartment at a slow pace. Actually, today was an extraordinary day to me.
